Life this week in pics

Maiden voyage in the BOB stroller

Sunday in our pj's

Sloan hanging out on the porch

That's two babies folks. Almost 20lbs of kids I carry around a lot. One in the ergo and one in my hands.

Over the last two weeks we've had two ice and snow days. So unlike Texas winters and they are predicting another snow/ice day next week again.

2 months old! (Almost 9 weeks)

It is crazy how time can move so incredibly fast but at the same time some of the days and nights around here drag on (crying seems to make time stand still and make 5 minutes seem like an eternity.)

My girls are 2 months old as of Jan. 27th and tomorrow marks 3 weeks exactly until I have to return back to work. I am sad to leave them but I know I will be a better mom in the long run to have my career to focus on  M-F and then my evenings and weekends to focus all my attention on my little ladies.

Stats
 Sloan
Weight: 9 pounds 14 ounces 14th %
Height: 21.25 inches 6th%

Riley
Weight: 10 pounds 6 ounces 24th %
Height: 21.27 inches 6th%

Sloan: You are my alert girl! You look around all the time and love looking out the window behind the couch, you cry and whine until we open the blinds so you can look out. You are starting to smile more and almost always give yourself a little grin when we put you in the swing and you look up into the mirror and see your reflection. You remain not the best eater and we suspect you may have a little reflux since chow time for you it lots of crying and stopping to burp or just take a break before you can finish again.( The doctor confirmed your eating habits/antics sound like reflux and tonight we will start the medicine.) You take twice as long as your sister to finish a bottle but you seem to do better when I feed you from the breast. You are a slightly better night sleeper than your sister, you rarely are the one to wake us up on the monitor. If you are the one crying we know it is because you need a diaper change or you must be starving. You have slept from 9pm to 3:45am-4am a few times and would probably do it more but if Riley wakes up we always wake you up. Sorry doll but mama can't be feeding babies all night.

Riley: My sweet chubby cheeked baby who started out 5.7lbs and now weighs in at 10 pounds 6 ounces! You love to eat...we laugh at how excited you get when the burp rag goes under your chin and you know the bottle is coming. For the most part during the day you are very chill and nap easily but you love to crank it up at night. Bedtime especially! You have had some major crying fits the last few weeks.....lasting anywhere from 30mins to almost 2 hours. You don't need changed, you aren't hungry, you don't have to burp,.....we are at a loss for how to make you happy other than to hold you. You would probably love for mama to break down and let you come sleep on her chest in the big bed but that is NOT going to happen. We are just going to have to come to a truce that your crib is where you sleep and I'll hold you all you want before bedtime. Okay? Deal.

Eating: You still eat 7 times a day and we try to stick to a pretty tight schedule. I always wake you both up by 7am to start the day and tandem breastfeed. You eat again at 9:30am, 12:30pm, 3:30pm, 6pm, and 9pm then we let you wake us up and decide when you want your middle of the night feeding. Sloan you get 4 ounce bottles all day and a 6 ounce bottle at night that you usually only finish about 5-5.5 of. Riley you get 5 ounce bottles all day and at night a 6-7 ounce bottle that you can pretty much always finish. :)

Diapers diaper diapers and more diapers. When my parents came for a visit again over MLK weekend we did the math and the girls go thru anywhere from 30-35 diapers per day. Each diaper breaks down to $.27 a piece. Yes that amount is hard to swallow down but we knew what we were in for and I know it will not be like this forever.....just for about 3 years. :) Matt and I will feel rich once we get these diaper funds back.

I won't lie week 5 and 6 of twin life around here was ROUGH and some of the worst nights of my mommyhood so far. But with each week things have gotten a little better and I am starting to know you both better which helps me make you happier faster. I can tell the difference between cries now and am getting a little more relaxed in general. It also helps that we are starting to get smiles....something about a toothless grin from your own kids will erase all terrible memories of the horrible night before.

This month we did a lot of eating out and you girls behaved great and we did some errands as well and you did wonderful at those too. You still seem to love riding in the car and fall asleep quickly after we put the car in motion. We also took the BOB stroller out for a spin this past weekend and you both liked it as well. You are still way too small to run with the BOB and we have to fasten you in pretty tight but its a step in the right direction. Mom and Dad need some time outside of the confines of this house and the BOB makes neighborhood walks 100x's easier.

Now for the cuteness overload

Sloan is not happy about this bow.
 Bebo and his girls.
A few outtakes from our photoshoot. It takes a lot of energy to get them all dressed cute, clean diaper, full belly and semi good mood while awake to take these pictures. Then inevitably someone poops their pants and it gets on their outfit (Riley) and we have to start all over. I was sweating by the end of this 45 min picture taking ordeal.

8 weeks

I'll do a longer post next week with the girls two month update but I can't skip a week without documenting all the "fun" we are having around here.

My parents came for MLK weekend and it was so nice to have the help. Matt got to go to the boat show and play golf with my dad. I got to sleep 6 hours straight and get to the mall with my mom. The girls love their Bebe and Bebo.

Oli loves the boppy. His 9th birthday is Feb. 11th maybe I'll give him one.

New baby gear. Ergo carrier and both girls seem to like it. Sloan likes to look up at lights so this is perfect for her.

More presents for the girls! Love these puzzle stools.

Genius training daddy and Riley. What you aren't doing flash cards with your 8 week old? Better get going to catch up with these McGowan girls.

It happened again

So of course after my big proclamation about sleep like I predicted we had some rough nights. BUT last night and once over the weekend the girls went down around 10-11ish and slept until 4am!!!!!! This is a huge savior when you have barely slept 5 hours in a row in 2 months. They ate quickly at 4am both times and went back down until 7am when I woke them up to get the day started.

Every twin parent will tell you the first few months are the hardest or even that they blocked out the first 4 months. Well we are turning 8 weeks tomorrow.... 2 months down 2 more to go! But again I'm all about celebrating the small day to day victories!

Pictures of the last few days cuteness.

We are getting smiles!!! Not the best picture but I'll try for more

We played dress up and now headbands are a staple of our wardrobe.

Sister

My sister took a week of her vacation to come to Austin and help me with the girls. Wouldn't you want to spend your vacation waking up in the middle of the night multiple times and changing poopy diapers? :)

I was so sad she had to leave but it was time to give her back to her own family. The girls and I will miss her and are already ready for her to come back.

A few pictures from the week. My sister is a baby whisperer btw.

Tom Cruise

Everyone remembers that Tom Cruise on Oprahs couch moment where he proclaimed how much he loved Katie Holmes..... Then cut to present day they are divorced and he looks crazier than ever.

This is my Tom Cruise on the yellow couch moment because inevitably tonight they will probably be up like wild banshees all night. BUT for today we celebrate that these girls slept from 10pm to 4am!!!!! (Minus the hour Riley fussed with some gas pains but that is neither here nor there) I didn't know what to do with myself when I saw 3am on the clock.... I had to get up and pump for some relief and then finally at 4am they stirred a bit so I went in and we fed them. I was so excited though to know we are making progress! It may have been a short lived victory but a victory nonetheless.

Bed bugs

They sleep right next to each other it's pretty precious.

Birth announcement my friend Neely Brook took their newborn photos and she did such an awesome job!

Bath time and HUNGRY

Not much to report here we are just getting the hang of being a family of four and Matt and I are learning to live on limited and broken sleep.

The girls are 6 weeks and 2 days today and I think they are in the midst of a growth spurt. They are eating like crazy! Riley downed 6oz last night and Sloan 5oz which is a record for both. We weighed them and Sloan weighs 9lbs and Riley weighs 9.6lbs. I love that they are gaining weight and Riley is getting some major cheeks! I want to Chubb these girls up big time. (Big babies sleep longer right? :) )

Riley smiles

Sleepy Sloan

Out to dinner at Rudy's (Matt and I were so tired this night we could barely make conversation at dinner)

No matter where we put them in the crib they wind up close together. Womb mates!

Tuesday activities

Well Texas is experiencing the polar vortex but not as bad as the rest of the country but enough to where we can't get out much with the girls. Here are a few pics from our last few days.

In the same bed and you wouldn't believe how much they squirm and end up right next to each other.

So true..

Sloan is getting so strong and alert. Usually when she is supposed to be sleeping.

Riley remains our better eater and therefore better sleeper.

Tonight Sloan is giving me looks that say "you think your going to sleep?"

Holidays are over

Sadly all the holidays are over so Matt had to go back to work today. We have had some ROUGH nights around here but luckily just when we were thinking we would never sleep again the girls treated to us to a few uninterrupted hours of sleep and just in time for dad to have to go back to the office.

I have a mommys helper coming a few days a week to help so I know least know a few days a week I'll get a nap and a shower. This is a huge luxury and I am so grateful to have found someone we really like.

New outfits dad picked out

Sleep Sloan

Our BOB ready for when these girls get bigger and the weather gets nicer
