3 months!

Sloan and Riley are 3 months old as of tomorrow 2/27! Goodbye horrid alleged 4th trimester. I totally do believe 0-3 months is like the 4th trimester and that babies aren't ready for this outside world. I love these girls but I wouldn't want to rewind time for all the money in the world. I would MAYBE have more kids if I could skip the first 6 weeks :) With all that being said I wouldn't change a thing....those hard weeks make this weeks smiles even more precious and I am so excited for the coming months. (But can someone inform me when the 'witching hour' stage ends?)

Sloan Marion: Your smile can cure any amount of exhaustion or frustration. You are a happy girl in the mornings and mostly throughout the day. Your worst time of day is 6-8 and holding you sometimes doesn't even help but when I go in to wake you up in the morning you are all smiles and coos. You have found your hands and you LOVE them. You are constantly sucking on them or moving them around. Your favorite things are 1. ceiling fans (you go bonkers for a ceiling fan) 2. the mirror on your swing and activity mat (you love to look at YOU and make yourself smile all the time, we think you get that from Uncle Bubba as he has never met a mirror he didn't love as well) 3. Your daddy (you love that Daddy of yours and he gets the biggest smiles out of you and he can always coax you into finishing a big bottle 7 ounces is your new record) The medicine the doctor gave us for your reflux has seemed to really help you and mealtime is a lot more pleasant.

Riley Aileen: Smiles all around this month...it takes a little more work to get a smile out of you as opposed to your sister but when you get them its worth it. You love to smile and play at times when its not supposed to be play time like diaper changes or especially at bedtime you get really smiley and talkative. This past weekend when Bebe and Bebo were here we were feeding you lunch outside and you decided you would rather just smile at everyone than eat....it was too cute. You don't like to be woken up from naps and most always wake up crying but after a few minutes you are happy again. Your favorite things are 1. The activity mat (you get after it and kick and play its awesome to watch your determination) 2. Ceiling fans (you go gaga for fans just like sister and you sometimes flirt with them) 3. The Ergo Carrier (you love when I put you in the Ergo and just walk around, you go right to sleep and no matter how much I am moving around or making noise it doesn't bother you.)

A typical day for us goes like this:

  • I wake you both up by 6:30-7ish to breastfeed and then we head downstairs to 'start our day' meaning I drink coffee and you two take cat naps or lay quietly until 8:30 or so.
  • 9am first bottle of the day usually 5 ounces
  • 9:30am-10:15am playtime, burps, poops
  • 10:15am-11:45am you should be napping key word being 'should' it doesn't always happen the way it 'should'
  • 12pm second bottle of the day usually 6 ounces
  • 12:30pm-1:15pm playtime, burps, more poops
  • 1:15pm-3pm nap (once again sometimes you both have other plans)
  • 3pm 3rd bottle of the day 4-5 ounces
  • 3:30-5:30 stroller walk, tummy time, play time, cat naps
  • 5:30pm I breastfeed you again and then brace myself for the witching hours
  • 6pm-8pm Your dad and I just do anything and everything to try and keep you happy and entertained which NEVER works so we make you do tummy time and sometimes you cry yourselves into a cat nap for 15-30 mins
  • 8pm If it is a bath night we start baths and whoever is crying the loudest goes first :) You both love bath time and so do we. I can't wait until you girls can take a bath at the same time and play.
  • 8:30pm Last bottle of the day usually 6.5 to 7 ounces (although soon we may go for 8 ounces) I mix in a little formula with this bottle in the hopes that it may keep your tummies full longer. Some nights it seems to work others....not so much.
  • Anywhere from 2am-5am one or both of you wake up and I breastfeed you for a few minutes and then you usually go right back down. I have no idea if individually one of you could sleep thru the night because sadly if one of you wakes up I wake the other one. Being part of duo means I have to keep you guys on the same schedule.

Milestones: You have made it from 8:45/9pm to 5am THREE times now without waking up! Which means I know you can do it again and I hope these nights become more consistent but I don't want to complain too much because you usually just wake up once a night and for twins born about a month early I am told that is pretty good. Both of you are getting really strong with your necks and I don't always need my hand on the back of your head when I carry you around. You both also know who I am and who your dad is, you recognize our voices and follow us with your eyes all over a room.  You both smile at us when we smile at you (if your mood permits) and you girls are a lot more active these days. Lots of kick time on the activity mat and tummy time....we are hoping we see some rollers soon.

Weights:
Sloan 11.8 pounds
Riley 12.2 pounds

Now for the cuteness.....Also keep in mind taking pictures of two babies is hard work. By the end of these little photo sessions I am sweating and out of breath.

I love the girls in these little outfits and sadly....they are already too small. We wore them twice. :(

Big girls in the Bumbo seats....they weren't loving this photo session.

3 month pictures and Sloan wasn't having it so we took a time out and had bottles then resumed the photo shoot

Thank God for Grandparents!

My parents came in town this past weekend to get their monthly twin lovin in. I pretty much make them commit to me the next time they are coming before they leave each time so I knew in Jan. when they would be back in Feb. Twins is hard y'all and I just need my own parents sometimes! My parents are nice enough to take the girls solo for us so we can get out of the house or catch a few more hours of sleep both are so greatly appreciated. The girls put on lots of smiles for their Bebe and Bebo and got held plenty. Mom and Dad thank you so much for coming here to help and visit and to know coming in you will be exhausted on the way home.
Riley is too cool

11 weeks

Last Wednesday the girls turned 11 weeks old. We just hung around the house mostly because it was cold again. The girls are getting so smiley these days it makes every day more and more fun. (In between the crying fits)

A little help from my friends

I feel like new moms should be more honest with each other about the emotions attached to becoming a new mom. It's an amazing experience but can be hard and isolating at the same time. I feel like in the last few weeks I've finally gotten into my mommy hood groove and feel semi like my old self. My two amazing friends Mandie and Lindley made the trip to Austin this past weekend to come hang out and love on these little girls of mine. It meant the world to me! They both left their own munchkins to come here for the weekend. I text with these two women every single day and they helped me get thru these first months of motherhood. Some days were dark but they were always there with reassuring words and making me laugh. I love y'all and am so happy you made the trek to Austin!

Heading out for some big girl time! Lunch, wine, and pedicures.

The Grove and a gorgeous Saturday

Mandie and I plus our pumps :) Lindley laughed at all our gear.

Riley Aileen

I wouldn't say life is getting easier around here but it is definitely looking up when you get a precious toothless grin from this cutie! She smiles with her whole face.

Sister wasn't quite in the mood for smiles.
